# Staking v1

The initial staking mechanism we chose is "soft staking".

Each Spawnling NFT that isn't listed for sale/auction on a marketplace is considered as (soft) staked simply by user holding it in their Algorand (non-custodial) wallet. The NFTs generate $SOULS and are airdropped to users on a weekly basis.

Staking v2 is planned for further down the roadmap with the additional Spawnling utilties.
